To decide what single direction, single axis units are needed, first choose between the Miniature, General Purpose, Modal Array, High Temperature, or Shock accelerometer sections. Generally, start the selection within each group with the maximum g amplitude range in mind. Next, verify other factors including temperature, range, mounting type, and cable configuration. For multi-axis testing, consider a triaxial unit or use a triaxial mounting adaptor (see accessories). See calibration notes for information on calibration. Contact us for detailed selection assistance, or for unique requirements not shown.
For high temperature sensors please see the high temperature accelerometer page.
Lightweight units are ideal for high frequency testing with a small size and low mass. Applications include environmental testing, component qualification, structural testing and operational behavior of lightweight or thin objects, and fatigue testing.
! When removing teardrop style sensors, it is essential to use the removal tool supplied along with an appropriate debonding agent.

These units cover a wide range of tests ranging from vibration control to machine testing, and product qualification. Sensors detailed measure either ±50g or ±500g ranges, but piezoelectric accelerometers often measure an extremely high dynamic range and are perfectly suited for measurements of quite low vibration levels.

Designed to withstand and measure extreme high-level, short-duration transient accelerations, units also feature internal filtering for resonance suppression. Applications include metal-to-metal tests, impacts and armor testing, explosive studies, pile driver monitoring, and simulated pyroshock events. High-g shock calibration is included with rental of 350 Series units.

Calibration data is provided electronically (on CD or USB memory stick) or as printed copies, depending on quantity rented and end-user preference.
The Modal Shop has internal calibration intervals set for most test products at 1 year. ANSI/ISO/IEC 17025:2000 makes clear that it is the responsibility of the end-user organization (in this case, the renter) to determine the appropriate calibration interval under the requirements of its own quality system. Per this, calibration certificates of rented equipment have "calibrated on" dates, but blank "calibration due" dates. Rentals ship with a customer specific expected return date in mind – if equipment is expected out for 5 months, the last calibration date will be within the past 7 months. Calibration to additional standards (e.g. Z540 or specific FAA requirements) are possible, but there may be an additional charge.
The Modal Shop's Scope of Accreditation can be found here. An example of a calibration certificate can be found here. Please contact us with questions or if a different calibration will be needed for your rental sensors.
The TEDS option is available on several rental transducers. TEDS stands for Transducer Electronic Data Sheet and provides memory within a sensor with manufacturer name, sensor type, model number, serial number and calibration data. It is an approved IEEE standard (1451.4), and many data acquisition manufacturers include the ability to read TEDS sensors. Not sure if your DAQ has TEDS capability? No problem; TEDS sensors can be used alongside non-TEDS sensors with no issues; the TEDS memory is bypassed. Want more information? See our TEDS FAQ.
